JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Department of Mechanical Engineering (https://www.me.psu.edu/) at the Pennsylvania State University is seeking a professional-track Assistant Research Professor in the field of atomistic-scale simulations in the van Duin-group. We seek talented, ambitious, and hard-working candidates dedicated to advancing scientific frontiers.

Job Duties:

  • Employing first-principles calculations.

  • Developing ReaxFF reactive force fields.

  • Performing and analyzing ReaxFF molecular dynamics for nanothreads investigations.

  • Assisting in supervising graduate and undergraduate research projects.

  • Writing manuscripts and actively participating in research proposals.

Requirements and Qualifications:

The Assistant Research Professor must have a Ph.D. in physics or a related field by the hire date and significant prior postdoctoral experience with a strong publication record. In addition, prior experience in atomistic-scale simulation methods, particularly ReaxFF reactive force fields, non-reactive force fields and Density Functional Theory methods, is required. The successful candidate will have significant prior experience supervising graduate students, good communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and in a team environment. The Assistant Research Professor will also be proficient in Python or other relevant coding methods. Prior experience in force field development and application of ab-initio methods for nanothreads simulations are major assets.
