We are looking for a Principal Software Engineer to provide technical leadership for software teams manufacturing and testing Amazon’s next generation of devices.

Key job responsibilities

  • As a Software Development Engineer, you’ll have a unique opportunity to shape the development and future of the AME Manufacturing team.

  • In this role you will lead the teams to innovate and solve problems of high ambiguity and high impact. You will drive design choices, trade-offs, priorities and timelines.

  • You will demonstrate exceptional management skills and technical expertise, and practical experience building large-scale distributed systems.

  • You are data and metric driven, and obsessively concerned about performance under resource constrained environments.

  • You will guide and inspire other engineers, participate in defining our engineering culture, and help to build a world class and highly self-motivated team.

  • You will draw from your deep and broad technical and management expertise to mentor senior engineers, complete hands-on technical work and provide leadership on complex technical issues, design tradeoffs, and feature and schedule prioritization

A day in the life

As a Automation Engineer at Amazon you’ll be expected to:

  • Work with robotics control engineers to integrate the cloud architecture with station level software

  • Work with cross functional teams to understand the requirements for data pipelines

  • Ensure proper integration with machine learning applications that are planned for the factory.

  • Develop prototypes for new technologies in the factory

  • Proactively communicate technical information and status to broad, cross-functional teams

  • Functionally decompose complex problems into simple, straight-forward solutions

  • Understand system inter-dependencies and limitations

About the team

Joining the AME Manufacturing Test team gives you the opportunity to:

  • Innovate the next generation manufacturing solutions for Amazon Devices, inclusing integration of the latest robotics and machine learning developments

  • Lead the architecture, design, development and launch of some of the core product features for internal customers

  • Create reliable, scalable, and high performance digital security solutions utilizing AWS services

  • Solve challenging problems that will revolutionize manufacturing

  • The ideal candidate will have experience leading or contributing to multiple simultaneous product development efforts. You’ll strive for simplicity, and demonstrate significant creativity and high judgment.

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  • 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience

  • 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $151,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $261,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
