JOB REQUIREMENTS: JOB ID: 20276 JOB TITLE: Assistant Professor of Theatre Design & Technology (Scenic Design) Principal Work Location: UW-Stevens Point Main Campus Supervisor: Department of Theatre and Dance Chair JOB DUTIES: We are seeking a creative and collaborative theatrical design and technology professional with expertise in Scenic and Properties Design, including Scene Painting, to support our undergraduate training program and robust production season. This position teaches within a comprehensive theatre design, technology, and management program focused on undergraduate BFA students in Design and Technology and BA students in Drama. A full-time teaching assignment includes 12 credits per term. Each semester, this position teaches 6 credits of coursework (2 courses) and 6 credits of reassigned time for mentoring student designers, managing properties/paint production shops, and supporting the production season in various ways related to Scenic Design, Properties Design, and Scene Painting. Candidates should expect to coordinate regularly with the Technical Director and join the department in best practices for industry safety standards. Courses taught could include Scene Design, Properties Design, Scene Painting, Theatrical Rendering, Computer Aided Design (CAD), Production Seminar, and Theatre Appreciation, an important contribution to the University\'s General Education Program. Related courses in Media/Projection Design are desirable. There is also opportunity to develop new courses within the candidate\'s area of expertise. Designing several productions per year (either scenic or properties) is a regular expectation of the position. Our annual season consists of eight productions: two staged readings, two fully produced plays, two fully produced musicals, and two fully produced dance concerts. Department designs could be included in the scholarly and creative activity required of all tenure track faculty. Tenure track candidates will be expected to participate in service, including but not limited to service on University and School of Performing Arts committees, active participation in Department recruitment, and advising. We seek candidates with technical theatre and design expertise and teaching methodologies that embrace the multi-centric perspectives in our field. Candidates will bring unique experiences and approaches to teaching and scholarship that expand traditional theatrical convention.
