Description DEPARTMENT: COMMUNITY CENTER POSITION TITLE: Education & Youth Activities Assistant STATUS: Full-Time Non-Exempt DIRECT SUPERVISOR: Education & Youth Activities director SALARY: $22.00 per hour MISSION STATEMENT: The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian church. QUALIFICATIONS A possessor of a positive Christian experience who is willing and able to share it. Applicants must be at least 21 years of age. Applicants must be in compliance with the child protection policies of The Salvation Army. An understanding and acceptance of The Salvation Army's mission, philosophy, program, and practices. HS Diploma or GED required. Some college and/or degree preferred. On the job experience may be substituted for educational requirements. Two years of experience teaching or working with children in an educational development environment. Tutor Program experience is strongly recommended, with emphasis on planning and scheduling. Ability to plan, direct, and evaluate the work of subordinates. Ability to work independently or with other staff members. Ability to keep calm in demanding situations. Multi-media, first aid card, and current CPR certification or willing to obtain one within 90 days from hire. Must have the ability to obtain a Washington State Commercial Driver License (Class A) within 90 days of hire (in some instances, a Class B or C will be required). Applicants must have experience working with volunteers and employees in either a team or supervisory role. Demonstrate leadership ability. Love and appreciation of children. Able to work under the restrictions of a monthly budget, as well as prepare an annual budget under the guidance of your immediate supervisor and Corps Officers. SCOPE OF POSITION: Responsible for assisting with the development, registration, recruitment, and teaching of the Afterschool center, Mid-Winter Day Camp, Spring Day Camp, Summer Day Camp, and Computer Learning Center. Responsible for the business, as well as the development, of all functions and programs. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Administrative Duties Schedule and conduct quarterly program planning and evaluation meetings with the Education and Activities Director. Assist with recruiting and training volunteers for educational programs. Assist in conducting staff meetings, calendar planning, and other administrative duties. Program Development Plan activities, curriculum, calendar, and individual learning plans. Assist in coordinating the After-School Center's use of the gym, game room, etc., with the Community Center Director. Assist the Director with staff development, program development, and parent communication. Assist the Director with developing relationships with the local schools, community centers, after-school programs, and youth programs to enhance the SAY Troops program for both our after-school program and summer camp. Any other program-related task that the Education & Activities Director may need to have done. Business Details Maintain a complete enrollment sheet for each student showing days of participation and topics studied. Coordinate any need for driver and vehicle with the Program Manager. Any other business items that may arise in connection with the After-School Center Program, Day Camp, and Computer Learning Center. Facility and Equipment Maintenance Be sure the facility is ready for the After-School Center Program prior to 2:00 p.m. and ensure that all materials are put away after 5:00 p.m. Maintain all bulletin boards, posters, and pictur
