Sarasota County Government Parks Supervisor - Construction Services in Sarasota, Florida

This crucial role will oversee the work of contractors for concrete, painting, fencing, and asphalt work. About the Position

In this role you will supervise the daily activities of Parks Internal Operations staff for projects and Capital Improvement Project (CIP) work. This can include, but is not limited to:

  • Supervise Skilled Trade Workers assigned to construct new projects in playgrounds, parks, beaches, recreation facilities, athletic locations and natural areas.

  • Assist with monitoring, analyzing, and assessing effectiveness and efficiency of all work performed, both in house and with outside contractors.

  • Establish workload priorities.

  • Maintain, review, and summarize daily activity logs and work orders.

  • Review and monitor safety equipment and instruct crews in proper work methods and correct safety procedures, including compliance with OSHA regulations.

  • Coordinate training for staff on utilization of equipment and all aspects of their job.

  • Participate in hiring of staff, performance reviews and disciplinary actions.

  • Coordinate and ensure appropriate supply of work material.

  • Track and maintain store inventories and rolling warehouses.

  • Coordinate the work of outside contractors and vendors for various tasks within Parks Internal Operations including playgrounds, parking lots, sidewalks, painting and fences.

  • Coordinate with Procurement on the hiring of contractors and vendors, ensuring the Procurement Code is followed.

  • Project manage all aspects of installations with vendors and division staff.

  • Utilize computerized programs for communication, scheduling, time management, financial tracking, and work orders.

  • Responsible for all financial aspects within the unit including invoicing, P-Card expenditure monitoring and tracking and budget.

  • Ensure compliance with county, state, and federal regulations.

About the Schedule

Work Hours:

  • Full-Time, 40 hours per week.

  • Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

About You

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field.

  • -OR- Associate's degree and two (2) years of related work experience.

  • -OR- High School Diploma and four (4) years of related work experience.

  • Minimum of one year of supervisory experience.

  • Valid Florida Driver's License by date of hire.

  • National Recreation and Park Association Playground Certification (or able to obtain the certification within 3 months of hire, we can help with this! )

Subject to Passing Substance Screening: This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of five (5) years.

Physical Demands: This position must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
