Portage Public School ELA Teacher - Intervention in Portage, Michigan

MIDDLE SCHOOL ELA TEACHER - INTERVENTION Portage North Middle School 2024-2025 School Year Salary: Per PEA Contract

Job Summary: Under the direction of the middle school principal, the teacher will be instructing students in grades 6 to 8 in ELA curriculum.

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following:

  1. Teaches various Middle School ELA utilizing the course of study prescribed by the District approved curriculum.
  2. Develop instructional plans and organize class time to provide a balanced program of instruction and working time.
  3. Provide individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of pupils with varying abilities and to accommodate a variety of instructional activities.
  4. Collects and analyzes relevant student achievement data in order to drive instructional decisions.
  5. Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and/or in self-selected professional growth activities to stay well acquainted with current research and best practice for student learning, instruction, and assessment in ELA.
  6. Uses Technology to meaningfully impact student learning outcomes.
  7. Collaborates effectively with staff and Principal.
  8. Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress.
  9. Builds rapport and strong relationships with students.
  10. Participates in faculty and/or District committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
  11. Other duties as assigned by building principal.
  12. Regular and consistent attendance.
  13. Must have knowledge of and comply with the policies and procedures contained in the Portage Public Schools Handbook.

Qualifications:

  • Valid State of Michigan Teaching Certificate with 6th to 8th grade level certification.
  • State of Michigan BA or BX endorsement for English or Language Arts.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with others.
  • Demonstrated strong work ethic and exemplary attendance record.
  • Demonstrated effective organizational and communication skills.
  • Able to work well as a member of a team and willing to participate in building and district level initiatives.
  • Skilled in collecting and analyzing relevant student achievement data in order to drive instructional decisions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Middle school teaching experience
  • Certification in another content area
  • ELA intervention and/or MTSS programming experience
  • Proficient with Google drive and related cloud-based applications.
  • Familiarity with the Common Core Standards for ELA
  • Interest in, and willingness to conduct after school programs.
