POSITION SUMMARY

Performs administrative work in coordinating and assisting in the planning of a variety of citywide or program specific community recreation programs.

Department : Parks & Recreation

Salary : $51,506 per year

Posting Type: Announcement/Bid

Union : This position is included in the Recreation Teacher's Union, Service Employees International Union, Local #668, meet and discuss unit and will be filled in accordance with the provisions of the Memorandum of Understanding.

Qualifying Requirements :

Your City of Pittsburgh application will be reviewed and your work experience and education/training will be evaluated to determine if you meet the qualifying eligibility requirements listed below for this position. You will be sent an eligibility letter regarding your eligible/ineligible status.

  • WORK EXPERIENCE: The application must clearly show two (2) years of full-time work experience in planning or organizing recreational programs, or a related field. (Less than full-time experience will be calculated on a pro-rated basis.)

  • EDUCATION/TRAINING: The application must clearly show an Associate's Degree from a fully accredited institution in Recreation, Community Recreation, Leisure Studies or a related field. (See NOTE under the General Application Requirements Section above regarding the verification of education/training).

  • EQUIVALENCY: Education/training and/or work experience may be substituted on a year for year basis if the application clearly shows the required number of years to meet the Total Qualifying Requirement for this position (based on the sum of work experience and education/training listed above). The Total Qualifying Requirement is four (4) years. (See NOTE under the General Application Requirements Section above regarding the verification of education/training).

CIVIL SERVICE EXAMINATIONS

If you meet the qualifying requirements listed above, you will be sent a letter of admission (when applicable) for the following examination(s). You must pass the written and/or performance examination(s) in order to have your name placed on the official Civil Service eligibility list for this position. Candidates who receive job offers must pass a medical examination (when applicable) prior to start date.

POSITION DUTIES

  • Plans, coordinates, administers, implements and evaluates a variety of approved Citywide, or program specific, recreation programs (e.g., youth program initiatives, human services information/referral programs, tennis programs etc.) relating to current public interest and trends.

  • Directs and trains assigned program personnel and assists in the recruitment of volunteers, contracted personnel, etc.

  • Develops, recommends and implements approved operating budget for existing and proposed programs as assigned; monitors program revenue and expenditures as assigned.

  • Prepares work and supply orders and identifies, plans and coordinates logistical support requirements for assigned recreation programs.

  • Researches and gathers statistics used for evaluating programs, justifying program costs, making limited program changes, etc.

  • Develops and maintains computer applications (e.g., database spreadsheet, etc.) for recreation programs.

  • Ensures that programs adhere to guidelines and make onsite inspections as requested or required; evaluates sites of potential or existing recreation programs.

  • Assists in securing financial assistance for programs through grants, sponsorships, etc.; maintains documentation regarding fundraising efforts.

  • Prepares reports for review by supervisor and/or Assistant Director as requested or required.

  • Assists with contracts, leases and other documents (e.g., R.F.P.'s, bids for services, supplies and equipment orders, etc.) related to assigned programs.

  • Develops, recommends and implements approved long range program marketing strategies for assigned programs.

  • Acts as a liaison with community organizations regarding programs, event, and services.

  • Ensures that work is performed in accordance with established city, county, state, and/or federal laws, guidelines, rules, and regulations.

  • Reports all accidental injuries occurring at assigned facility in accordance with established policies and procedures.

  • Attends approved training programs, staff meetings, etc. as requested or required.

  • Works weekends, evenings and holidays as may be requested

  • May direct the work of departmental personnel.

  • Plans, develops, directs, coordinates, organizes and controls the materials, equipment and personnel under jurisdiction toward the effective, efficient and economical attainment of program goals, including maximum convenience to the public and safety of employees.

  • Manages area of responsibility in strict accordance with applicable laws, regulations and established policy including union agreements to ensure fair and standardized treatment of employees.

  • Maintains records and prepares accurate reports, correspondence, etc.; completes appropriate forms and makes referrals.

  • Maintains a clean and safe work environment.

  • Performs activities and functions of related personnel and other related tasks and duties as assigned or required.
