Summary:

Responsible for the daily supervision of the Cath Lab's operations. Supervises Cath Lab nurses, technologists, and support staff. Supervises the daily departmental operations in terms of procedural scheduling, staff scheduling, and efficiency and cost-effectiveness of procedures. Assists in budget preparation, long-term planning, program development, and policy and procedure formulation and implementation. Assists with interviewing, selecting, promoting, and terminating staff per established hospital policies and federal/state laws.

Responsibilities:

• Patient Care: Participates in clinical care.

• Staff Education: Assists with identifying staff educational needs, developing and implementing educational plans, coordinating vendor in-services, evaluating progress of new staff members on orientation, mentors' new staff.

• Staff Scheduling: Prepares the staff schedule for final approval in a timely manner. Prepares the daily staff lab assignments for the week. Assists with managing changes to the schedule to ensure appropriate staffing levels and skill mix.

• Cath Lab Management: Provides direct supervision of nursing staff and technologists. Demonstrates leadership in problem-solving. Responsible for the daily managerial functions of the Cath Lab under the direction of the nurse manager. Works extensively with vendors and/or clinical engineering to identify and ensure timely resolution of technical issues with lab equipment and systems.

• Communication: Maintains positive and effective interpersonal relationships with all members of the team, responds to all queries in a timely manner, maintains and develops interdepartmental collaboration and relationships. Helps resolve issues and concerns of both patients and staff.

• Quality Improvement: Actively participates in QA, supports unit shared governance, ensures efficient and effective operations through compliance with institutional and regulatory policies and procedures. Supports customer service and patient/family/physician/staff satisfaction. Understands and demonstrates service recovery commitment.

• Fiscal Management: Maintains fiscal responsibility in the daily operations of the Cath Lab. Educates staff and works to ensure that staff are utilizing inventory and inventory tracking processes appropriately.

• Regulatory Readiness: Consistently works to maintain regulatory readiness.

• Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures

• Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization

Credentials:

Req Pref Licenses/Registrations/Certifications Licenses/Registrations/Certifications

  • RCIS OR ARRT (for technologists within 1 year of hire) RCIS

  • BLS/CPR from the American Heart Association

  • ACLS from the American Heart Association

  • Registered Nurse - PA (Required)

Education or Equivalent Experience:

Bachelor's Degree Bachelor’s Degree OR Cardiovascular Technologist And 3+ years 3 to 5 years of Cath Lab supervisory experience. Staff development, training, supervision, and evaluation experience

  • Master’s degree preferred*
