As a key member of our legal team, you will split your time between having full responsibility for the permits and licenses required to operate our small portfolio of owned and managed hotels, and also work with other paralegals on tasks relating to litigation and arbitration. Your Responsibilities

• Owned and Managed Portfolios:

• Primary responsibility for maintaining liquor licenses and other permits and licenses required for the operation of portfolio of hotels managed by Choice, including obtaining new licenses and permits, renewals, and general keeping of license and permit records.

• Work with in-house counsel and occasional outside counsel in relation to issues relating to licenses and permits.

• Other duties relating to the Choice-managed and Choice-owned hotel portfolios as assigned.

• Litigation:

• Assist in-house and outside counsel with workflow related to third party defense cases, subpoenas and discovery.

• Draft legal documents as needed by counsel.

• Assist in-house legal department with litigation related issues and internal reporting.

• Other duties as assigned.

• Arbitration:

• Assist with preparing, drafting and filing arbitration documents, including Settlement and Release Agreements and Termination and Release Agreements.

• Assist in generating monthly reports for management review.

• Other duties as assigned.

Your Experience, Skills & Competencies

• Minimum 2 years of office experience in a law firm, company, or governmental agency.

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

• Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.

• Able to search for and understand publicly-available instructions and accurately complete forms as required by various license- and permit-granting governmental agencies.

• Self-motivated.

• Good social skills and ability to work in team and with many clients.

• Able to express ideas clearly both verbally and in writing.

• Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Word.

• Paralegal Certificate desirable but not required.

Your Team

This is an individual contributor role that will report to the Senior Counsel, Owned & Managed Hotels. You will have 3 peer teammates and collaborate with cross functional departments on a regular basis.

Your Work Location

As a Paralegal at Choice, you will be based in our beautiful, state-of-the-art worldwide corporate headquarters in North Bethesda, MD. Less than 15 miles from Washington, DC, we’re located one block away from the North Bethesda Metro station, with service on the Red Line and the MARC Brunswick line, easy access to I-270, and plenty of free parking provided by Choice Hotels.

Right now, our associates in corporate headquarters are working in a hybrid environment, up to 4 days per week in the office and virtual from your home office the remaining day(s).
