POSITION SUMMARY: Repairs, maintains, and installs wiring, motors, transformers, generators, lighting, and other electrical systems. This is a journey-level position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITES:

1. Ensures all work is performed in accordance with NEC, OSHA, NFPA, etc. requirements
2. Makes correct and effective repairs, adjustments, etc. to electrical-mechanical equipment
3. Performs skilled routine and emergency electrical-mechanical work
4. Performs troubleshooting, diagnostics, and analysis of electrical-mechanical equipment
5. Reads blueprints of electrical/mechanical equipment
6. Performs Lockout/Tagout as required
7. When performing maintenance work, checks to determine if other, unassigned work in the immediate area, needs attention and proactively responds to the need; reports same to Senior Electrician and/or Electrical Supervisor
8. Document and report time worked and materials used
9. Makes routine decisions involving electrical-mechanical equipment operation and maintenance, and safe work practices
10. Performs all duties in a safe manner and adhere to all laws governing vehicle operation; maintain safe driving record with zero preventable accidents
11. Monitor contractors performing electrical-mechanical work
12. Inspect condition of equipment at end of day and ensure it is ready for next use
13. Performs all other duties as assigned

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Requires completion of a high school diploma, general education degree (GED). Prior experience in maintenance and electrical repair AND completion of a two-year federally approved technical training program in electrical repair and maintenance; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved. Master Electrician license preferred; Journeyman Electrician license acceptable.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Strong interpersonal skills; ability to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with others
2. Considerable field experience in electrical-mechanical installation, repair, and maintenance
3. Considerable experience with NEC, NFPA, Lockout/Tagout requirements preferred
4. Considerable knowledge of methods, techniques, materials, and equipment used in electrical-mechanical field
5. Experience performing manual labor
6. Experience providing effective leadership to subordinates
7. Good oral and written communication skills
8. Valid Virginia Driver's License; Commercial Driver's License preferred
9. Must be at least 18 years old
10. Ability to obtain and maintain a VDOT Security Clearance
11. Ability to pass a Criminal History Background Check and drug screen

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: This position is designated as essential and, as such, all duties associated with the job are required during emergency situations which may include but not limited to inclement weather, disaster response, and emergency operations.
