JOB SUMMARY

  • The Clinical Nutrition Coordinatoris responsible for the day-to-day administrative functions and leadership pertaining to the Clinical Registered Dietitians and SJHS Clinical Nutrition programs. This position also has direct patient care responsibilities within an assigned patient care unit/specialty area providing clinical nutrition duties to include assessments, monitoring and education, according to established policies. The coordinator is responsible for communicating to/from the General Manager of Food and Nutrition and to the clinical dietitian team or other SJHS clinical leaders.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Functions in both clinical dietitian and clinical nutrition supervisory role as the team leader.

  • Performs all patient care duties related to clinical nutrition as clinical dietitian in accordance with hospital patient care standards and policies.

  • Coordinates the provision of clinical nutrition provided by clinical dietitians.

  • Understands, articulates, and ensures compliance with patient safety practices mandated by national, state, and local regulatory agencies.

  • Performs administrative tasks related to the clinical nutrition staff and day-to day- operations of the team.

  • Serves as a liaison between the clinical nutrition staff and the General Manager of Food and Nutrition Services related to clinical nutrition, patient meal services and wellness initiatives.

  • Consults with and provides insights and regulatory needs to General Manager-FANS as related to patient menu selections and related issues and interpretations of regulatory standards.

  • Maintains clinical nutrition compliance with regulatory agency standards, including state, federal and TJC requirements.

  • Coordinates nutrition rounds, leads staff meetings, and arranges continuing education/training opportunities for staff.

  • Actively participates in interdisciplinary teams and committees by representing the clinical nutrition impacts and clinical nutrition opportunities for intervention.

  • Coordinates the applicant process including interviews and training of new clinical registered dietitians to meet clinical nutrition staffing needs.

  • Implements clinical nutrition initiatives provided by THS/SJHS.

  • ·Collects data and monitors staff productivity. Completes PI projects and QI reports including chart audits.

  • Maintains SJHS approved clinical nutrition diet manual and references and education materials for patients and staff.

  • Assists in completing clinical dietitian performance reviews and competency assessments within scope of responsibilities and/or as delegated by Director.

  • Determines and proceeds with Corrective Action and Counseling for staff in scope. Works with HR Partner to determine progressive corrective actions up to and including termination.

  • Supervises Clinical RD staffing, recruiting, and hiring decisions.

  • Actively demonstrates the Trinity Health/SJHS mission and core values and conducts oneself at all times in a manner consistent with these values.

  • Knows and adheres to all laws and regulations pertaining to patient health, safety, and clinical nutrition information.

  • Maintains employee files (ensures competencies, registration, licensure and certification requirements and continuing education requirements on an annual basis).

  • Performs other duties consistent with purpose of Clinical Nutrition Coordinator as required or directed.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS AND CORE COMPETENCIES

Education:

Bachelor’s degree from Coordinated Program or Didactic Program in Dietetics and Dietetic Internship or Pre-professional Practice program all accredited by the Commission on Accreditation/Approval for Dietetics Education

(CAADE) of Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics (AND).

Master’s degree in Dietetics, Health Care Administration, Business Administration, or related field preferred.

Licensure: Active certification with the Indiana Dietitians Certification Board and active registration with Commission on Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics (AND) is required. Active professional certification

specific to practice specialty strongly preferred when applicable.

Experience: Three to five years of Clinical Nutrition experience in a healthcare facility medical center or hospital. One to two years of previous, professional leadership experience.
