Summary THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 5 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a HUMAN RESOURCES ASSISTANT (MILITARY) (TITLE 5), Position Description Number T5808500 and is part of the IL MILPO, National Guard. Responsibilities As a HUMAN RESOURCES ASSISTANT (MILITARY) (TITLE 5), GS-0203-6, you will provide administrative assistance to one or more of the programs assigned within the MILPO. Major Duties - This is NOT an all-inclusive list: Perform complete review of records and other case documentation to ensure that they are procedurally correct, complete, and documentation is sufficient for action being taken and that all levels of legal, medical, and administrative review have been completed. Ensure that regulatory requirements related to the specific action are met. Identify gaps or inconsistencies in the record and initiates action or interviews personnel to obtain needed data. Perform personnel and administrative actions related to deployment manning documents. Provide administrative support for the programs assigned to the MILPO. Type military and non-military correspondence, messages, orders, reports, forms, requisitions, directives, SOP's, and similar material. Proof read finished copy, corrects as necessary and assembles for review, signature, authentication, or other disposition. Complete and submit various required personnel action. Provide explanations and interpretations of rules, regulations, procedures, and requirements pertaining to actions taken or recommended. Draft or prepare related correspondence for appropriate signature and enters data in automated systems. Utilize, review, and update data from information sources, both manual and electronic, for use in answering questions, responding to correspondence, or preparing reports or briefings. Review transaction reports from previous days' inputs for errors, correct inaccurate data, and resubmit transaction to appropriate automated system. Provide assistance in counseling service members on available benefits. Requirements Conditions of Employment Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation. This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position. May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours; overtime may be required. This position is designated as Essential Personnel and may be subject to duty in preparation for, or in response to, a state emergency or disaster declaration. This designation will not exceed 14 calendar days per year unless otherwise approved in advance by the TAG. May be required to successfully complete a probationary period. Participation in direct deposit is mandatory. Recruitment and relocation incentives may be available for this position. Qualifications GENERAL EXPERIENCE: MUST possess progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled; experience using computer and automation systems. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the lower grade level in the Federal service in order to be considered for this position. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: GS-06 Level MUST possess at least 12 months at the GS-05 level that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, such as, providing administrative support, type military and non-military correspondence, and edit documentation. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
