Northrop Grumman Manufacturing Engineer 2 - ATS in Lanham, Maryland

ATS is seeking to hire a Manufacturing Engineer to contribute to new business development and also continual support of our current programs.

Advanced Technology Solutions (ATS), located in Lanham Maryland, specializes in high performance, high reliability avionics and Space Flight subsystems for Aerospace, Defense, Space, Nuclear Defense and Instrumentation applications. ATS' space products have supported more than 28 space missions over a period of 25 years. These missions stretch back to Apollo and the beginning of the US Space Program and include a large diversity of civil and military programs, including notable programs like SBIRS, X-37B, Hubble, Orbital Express, Space Station, Shuttle, Mars Lander, Astronaut EMU Suits and 20 other NASA missions including four of their early small satellites. ATS was one of the first organizations in Northrop Grumman to foresee the potential of evolving Small Satellite technologies for application within the military, civil and commercial space markets.

Primary Job responsibilities are:

Ownership of manufacturing processes with in depth understanding of the requirements, process, equipment, tooling & techniques as learned through in depth process analysis, participation and observation.

Coordinating the design & documentation of safe & affordable manufacturing processes through cross functional team(s) including (Project Engineering, Tooling, Quality, Facility & Production personnel).

Creation of Manufacturing Process Standards to ensure consistent and reliable product builds.

Identifying & monitoring the Key Process Parameters using Statistical Process Control (SPC).

Evaluating opportunities for improvement of existing processes, conducting trials & verifications for improvements through a robust change process, and implementing verified changes.

Non-Conformance investigation to determine Root cause & Corrective Action for Process related non-conformances.

Defining requirements for new/repaired facilities and equipment used in the production of our products

Developing scope of work and related estimates for proposal activity

Supporting production personnel on the floor as required

Basic Requirements Manufacturing Engineer 2

  • This position emphasized skills and experience. Must have Bachelor's Degree with 2 or more years of experience as a manufacturing engineer.

  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment supporting assembly operations and equipment.

  • Experience in Statistical Process Control (SPC), Lean and Six Sigma techniques.

  • Requires some off shift and weekend work

  • Excellent verbal and written skills

  • Ability to acquire a Security Clearance which requires US Citizenship as a pre-requisite

Preferred Qualifications:

  • STEM Degree (Science, Technical, Engineering or Mathematical)

  • Composites knowledge (i.e. hand layup, automated layup, cure experience, and/or machining experience)

  • Understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)

  • Functional knowledge of Process Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (PFMEA)

  • Experience authoring, modifying, and auditing work procedures

  • Able to utilize Catia V5 and/or NX

  • Experience providing innovative techniques focused on improving product designs and tooling assemblies or equipment

Salary Range: $77,100 - $115,700

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
