Summary

The Student Navigator will serve as a resource and mentor for students enrolled in the Middle College programs through GRCC as part of a 13th year high school cohort model. This position requires active support and guidance for students as they transition into a collegiate environment. The Student Navigator will encourage and develop a college readiness skillset to improve success and retention. The Navigator will maintain regular contact with students and serve as a liaison between faculty and administration at the high school and the Academic Outreach team.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide onsite support for Middle College Students at the High School location • Mentor middle college students to support student retention and completion rates • Input and report student data, providing weekly reports to Academic Outreach team • Address student needs or challenges in response to early alert reports • Upon request, develop strategies that support students who demonstrate at risk behaviors • Assist in connecting students to college resources for academic and service support • Maintain appropriate documentation and notes of student interactions, referrals, and resources • Monitor and track student program success • Recruit and promote program at outreach and community events • Assist with test proctoring and application processing as needed • Coordinate Summer Bridge program for newly accepted middle college students • Develop a peer mentoring program and facilitate student mentor meetings • Coordinate semester celebration activities for middle college students • Participate in department meetings as needed • Regular attendance during normal scheduled hours is required • Other duties as assigned by Academic Outreach Team

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Education

• Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred • National Career Readiness Certificate preferred (NCRC) but not required.

Experience

• Prior experience working with high school students preferred • Proven student support services and experience with participants with diverse backgrounds and barriers • Experience with at-risk and underrepresented populations preferred • Knowledge of data reporting systems, experience with data tracing and preparing reports

Skills

• Ability to relate to diverse high school student populations • High level of energy, enthusiasm, and the ability to be innovative and creative • Ability to organize work, handle multiple tasks, and meet timelines in a multi-project environment • Ability to work independently and collaboratively • Proficient in use of electronic student information systems (PeopleSoft), Microsoft Office (especially Excel), and other Internet applications preferred • Self-motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision • Experience with data tracking and preparing reports • Ability to maintain a positive customer and student oriented approach in a demanding work environment • Strong interpersonal skills • Proven experience working with diverse populations both with individuals and groups • Compliance with FERPA guidelines • Understanding of the mission and philosophy of mid
