The Department of Revenue (DOR) employs approximately 1,600 hard-working and dedicated employees throughout Colorado. We can be seen performing functions as varied as auditing and collecting taxes, issuing driver licenses and motor vehicle titles, marketing lottery products, and regulating liquor, gaming, horse racing, marijuana, and the auto industry in order to assist the citizens of our state.

As a temporary employee, temporary employees pay state, federal and local (if applicable) taxes, Medicare tax, and contribute to the Colorado Public Employees' Retirement Association (PERA). They also receive Workers' Compensation coverage. A temporary employee does not receive health/dental/life insurance benefits and does not receive annual/holiday pay.

Marijuana Enforcement Division

The Marijuana Enforcement Division (MED) is a dynamic and innovative regulatory agency tasked with licensing and regulating the commercial Medical and Retail Marijuana industries in Colorado. First formed in 2010 as the Medical Marijuana Enforcement Division, the MED has developed a leading-edge approach to commercial marijuana regulation and is considered a global regulatory and industry leader. The Division implements legislation, develops regulations, conducts regulatory and criminal investigations, issues business licenses, engages in outreach and education initiatives, and enforces compliance mandates using a range of intervention strategies necessary to maintain a progressive and robust regulatory framework. The MED promotes transparency and innovation by utilizing a collaborative approach to engaging with stakeholders and by proactively and positively pursuing solutions to issues in a fast-paced professional environment.

JOB DUTIES: The Colorado Department of Revenue Marijuana Enforcement Division is looking to hire individuals to work as Minor Operatives. Minor Operatives are individuals who are hired through the Statebetween the ages of 18 years old and 20 years oldand are tasked with attempting to purchase marijuana products from licensed establishments.

*AT THIS TIME WE DO NOT HAVE ANY CURRENT VACANCIES IN THECENTRAL REGION (DENVER METRO AREAS)- THIS REGION INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING COUNTIES: PARK, JEFFERSON, DENVER, ADAMS, ARAPAHOE, DOUGLAS, ELBERT AND LINCOLN.

These checks are called underage compliance checks and aim to prevent underage sales of marijuana to those under the age of 21 years.

You will work directly with Marijuana Enforcement Division Investigatorsin an undercover capacity and may be required to be available to testify in criminal court and administrative hearings.

We are looking for individuals that can be flexible with their work schedule. Marijuana Enforcement Division Investigators will schedule underage compliance checks a couple of times a month throughout the state of Colorado -

  • Transportation from a MED officeto licensed marijuana establishmentswill be provided
  • MED is able to work around class schedules, and other employment.
  • All interested parties must complete a State Application and must be between the ages of 18 and 20 years old to be considered.
  • There are no set working schedules or guaranteed hours.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment and Appeal Rights

Residency Requirement: (New)

This posting is open to current and non-current residents of the State of Colorado at the time of submitting your application. However, if you are selected and accept the position, you will be required to establish residence in the State of Colorado.

Minimum Qualifications: Education and Experience: Must be between the ages of 18 and 20 years old AND Must possess and maintain a valid State issued Identification Card (ID) or Driver License and be willing and able to work evenings and weekends.

  • Proven ability to work independently and accept supervision

Conditions of Employment with the Colorado Department of Revenue: 1.As a condition of employment with the Colorado Department of Revenue, a requirement exists that all personnel timely file all necessary Colorado Individual Income Tax (CIIT) returns and timely pay tax obligations. As such, all employees must undergo a pre-employment evaluation of their tax records/accounts to ensure compliance with this policy.
