Flint Community Schools Montessori Teacher (1st - 3rd) in Flint, Michigan

Job Summary:

To create a flexible Montessori program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with students; to motivate students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation in accordance with each student's ability; to establish good relationships with parents and other staff members.

Flint Community Schools, an urban public school system with campuses throughout the City of Flint, Michigan, has a long and rich tradition of community education. Flint Community Schools provide a range of academic, extended services and extracurricular activities at the elementary and secondary levels to meet the needs of our students and their families.

Essential Functions:

  1. Creates developmentally appropriate lesson plans that contain required Montessori activities.
  2. Confer with parents or guardians, and administrators in order to resolve students' behavioral and academic problems.
  3. Maintains a safe, developmentally appropriate, learning environment at all times.
  4. Develops and implements lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individual Educational Plans and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
  5. Attends and implements professional development/training as requested.
  6. Selects theme-related field trips and provides supervision of all participants.
  7. Supervises students in and out of the classroom activities during the school day.
  8. Supervises and assigns duties to the paraprofessionals and classroom volunteers.
  9. Conducts screening, ongoing assessments, and enters assessment data for each child as required. 10.Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss students' progress and interpret the school program. 11.Conducts two on-site parent-teacher conferences annually with each parent. 12.Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems. 13.Promotes parent involvement in all aspects of the program.

Qualifications:

Education: Michigan teaching certificate required. Elementary certification required. Math and Language endorsement preferred. Must be Highly Qualified. Early Childhood Education (ZA) or Early ChildhoodGeneral and Special Education (ZS) endorsement preferred for Pre-K. Montessori elementary certified preferred.
