Job Summary:

Flint Community Schools, an urban public school system with campuses throughout the City of Flint, Michigan, has a long and rich tradition of community education. Flint Community Schools provide a range of academic, extended services and extracurricular activities at the elementary and secondary levels to meet the needs of our students and their families. 

Essential Functions:

1. Provides a comprehensive guidance and counseling program for students in grades 7-12.
2. Consults with and communicates with teachers, staff, and parents to enhance effectiveness in providing support to students and the educational program.
3. Use student achievement data to effectively guide and advocate for appropriate course selection for each identified student.
4. Work with students and staff on both an individual and group basis to resolve/improve academic performance and behavior problems which interfere with the teaching and learning process.
5. Identifies appropriate academic and personal resources for each student designed to ensure academic success.
6. Performs daily monitoring of attendance for each student served.
7. Works on Master Schedule of classes.
8. Implement immediate intervention tactics designed to address student absences.
9. Maintains a student database that includes relevant evaluation data (attendance, grades, assessment results) for each student served.
10. Counsels students on scheduling classes.
11. Act as a communication link between teachers, parents and students in the resolution of student problems.
12. Guides and counsels groups and individual students through educational, career, and personal/social development.
13. Serves as a resource for students in gaining entrance to post-secondary opportunities.
14. Refers students as needed to appropriate community resources in consultation with their parents.
15. Completes statistical reports are required.

Qualifications:

Education: Michigan Department of Education Secondary School Counselor endorsement or School Counselor Certificate required.
