Community Volunteer Ambassador – Yosemite National Park

Location: El Portal, CA

Position Details:

Stewards Individual Placements, a program of Conservation Legacy, provides individuals with service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural resources. The Community Volunteer Ambassador (CVA) Program combines the strength of a national leader in conservation service with the National Park Service to train a diverse group of emerging leaders to assist park units in building lasting connections to communities.

Join Yosemite's Volunteer Program for a 50-week full time position to strengthen communities and preserve natural resources through stewardship and outreach. Assist with office work and coordinate volunteer groups with multiple divisions to accomplish meaningful park projects. Interns create and maintain efforts that are inclusive, equitable, and accessible to all who wish to volunteer. Yosemite National Park is best known for its waterfalls, but within its nearly 1,200 square miles, you can find deep valleys, grand meadows, ancient giant sequoias, a vast wilderness area, and much more.

Site Description

Yosemite National Park is a large wilderness park, one of the national park system's crown jewels. Our volunteer program is large and complex, with hundreds of individual volunteers, thousands of group participants, and exciting events such as the Yosemite Facelift. The CVA will join a full-time Assistant Volunteer Coordinator along with full-time Volunteer Program Manager, to administer and improve a challenging and inspiring operation.

Position Responsibilities:

· Recruit individual volunteers & volunteer groups using a variety of platforms

· Lead volunteer projects in the field

· Coordinate stewardship events such as National Public Lands Day

· Advocate for volunteer work with other NPS divisions

· Evaluate and participate in planning for the Yosemite Volunteer Program

· Perform targeted outreach for volunteers from diverse backgrounds

CVA Minimum Requirements:

· Ability to work both indoors and outdoors

· Oral and written communication skills

· Attitude of openness to learning

· Comfortable with remote rural living

· Participate in the CVA National Early Service Training in late November 2024 (date TBD)

· Be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident.

· Be 18-30 years old at time of service (veterans up to 35 years old)

· High School Diploma/GED

· Pass fingerprint-based FBI, state criminal, and a national sex offender checks.

· Be able to provide proof of a driver’s license and complete a MVR check

• Must be over 21 years old or have had license for at least 3 years to be insured in this position

Preferred Qualifications:

· High School Diploma or GED

· Familiarity with schedule management, outreach, marketing, or related field

· Previous experience leading groups of children and/or adults in the outdoors

· Interest in social and environmental justice

Additional Information:

· May require some weekend and/or evening work

· Shared housing provided in El Portal, CA

· Position is rurally located; driver's license and car strongly recommended

Benefits:

· $600/week living stipend.

· $150/week in housing allowance, if housing is not provided.

· Limited health care/childcare benefits

· The position is eligible for an AmeriCorps Education Award $6,895.00 (pre-tax) upon successful completion of the program

· $1,200 in professional development funds for training, networking, conferences, and/or travel.

· Week-long in-person training at NPS site with travel/meal expenses covered.
