About the Work Unit

This work unit exists to fulfill statutory responsibility to provide major crimes investigations, technical and investigative assistance to local and state agencies upon request and has jurisdiction pertaining to Colorado’s Organized Crime Control Act and fugitive apprehension, through cooperation with local, state, and federal agencies.

About the Job

CBI is seeking to expand its investigative operations by providing Field Agents in the Eagle County area of Colorado.

This position exists to collect, preserve, analyze and interpret physical evidence collected in criminal cases for federal, state and local law enforcement agencies; and to conduct investigation of major crimes including document review, interview and interrogation, surveillance, informant handling, undercover activities, search and seizure, arrest and prosecution of criminal offenders. This position may be assigned to the Major Crimes, Human Trafficking/Fugitive, or Special Investigations Illicit Marijuana work groups, which are based in CBI's Grand Junction office.

Key Responsibilities

Investigative Participation

-Conducts primarily lengthy complex criminal investigations, i.e., homicide, arson, serious assaults and other felonies for local law enforcement agencies, state agencies or as directed by the Office of the Governor. Investigations include: interviews of suspects, witnesses and victims. Searches for evidence of criminal acts. Writes comprehensive specific reports of findings and actions. Effects physical arrests and attends required training when necessary.

Investigative Analysis

-Analyze and corroborate legal and Agency documents and records in support of criminal investigations pertaining to complex and organized crime activities.

Legal Procedures

-Writes affidavits, warrants, case filing and subpoenas for presentation to district attorneys, grand juries and trial courts. Gives testimony in court, makes recommendations regarding prosecution to district attorneys and the Attorney General’s office relating to complex criminal investigations.

Criminal Intelligence Analysis

-Collects, analyzes and disseminates criminal intelligence pertaining to known and suspected offenders by recruiting and supervising informants and gathering information from various sources.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

NOTE: To be considered for this position, you must meet one of the following options for consideration.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Six years of professional investigative experience with a law enforcement agency. Current Colorado POST certification.

OR

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in any field and two years of professional investigative experience with a law enforcement agency. Current Colorado POST certification.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Professional criminal investigative experience related to felony crimes against a person.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Primary work will be out of an office in Eagle County.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • This position requires unusual shift and travel demands for investigations, training, and court testimony. Requires 24/7 availability to assist with investigations, including weekends and holidays. Work may be conducted anywhere in the State of Colorado.

  • POST certification is required at the time of application, or the ability to reinstate or obtain POST certification prior to appointment.

  • Applicant must be willing to be fingerprinted, successfully pass a polygraph, drug screen, psychological exam, medical physical and an extensive background investigation to include criminal, financial, employment, and driving history. If you have used any illegal drugs in the past three years, or have been convicted of a felony or domestic violence, you will be disqualified and will not be hired for this position.

  • Requires a valid Colorado driver's license with no active restraints. This position requires response to criminal investigations and crime scenes anywhere within the state Colorado.

  • Special physical requirements: vision, hearing, minimum upper body strength satisfied through POST skills certification.

  • Must be willing be support any of the CBI Investigations Unit that include but not limited to Major Crime Investigation, Cold Cases, Human Trafficking, Fugitives, Registered Sex Offenders, Drug Offenses, Cyber Crime and Identify Theft.

  • Must reside or be able to commute daily to Eagle County.
