Guthrie Registered Dietitian - Food Service - Part Time in Cortland, New York

Position Summary:

Provides, implements, and documents medical nutrition therapy assessments, and plans including education and evaluation to patients, residents, clients, and its affiliates, including community and contractual services. Maintains skill and knowledge to provide optimal nutrition care; educates/coordinates activities as a member of the health care team. Works with peers and food service staff to ensure implementation of established care plan. Participates in auditing as directed: Charts, test trays and meal rounds. Adheres to hospital and department policies and procedures. Complies with all regulatory requirements including State DOH Long Term Care and JCAHO Standards

Education, License & Cert:

Bachelor's Degree in a nutrition related program. Completion of Dietetic Internship. If RD‐eligible, must pass RD exam within 6 months of hire. Master's Degree preferred. Possess and maintain valid driver's license Active maintenance of registration by completion of continuing education requirements Member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics preferred. Within one year of employment, must begin and complete CDN certification with NYS, if required for job responsibilities. Medicare provider number preferred.

Experience:

1 year of relevant experience preferred. Skills: Competent in all skills of nutrition. Will have basic computer skills, Microsoft preferred. Ability to prioritize work. Must have interpersonal skills to handle confidential information, sensitive situations, and ability to work with diverse group of people within and outside the organization. Work cooperatively with peers and supervisors to contribute to the overall productivity of the team.

Essential Functions:

  1. Develops /maintains good communication with patients, residents, customers, and co‐workers, utilizing AIDET and positive/helpful demeanor. Responds to customer issues and concerns in a prompt manner, reports concerns to supervisor as needed. Assists with menu selections with use of tablets following diets and restrictions. Performs meal rounding with appropriate follow‐up as needed.

  2. Demonstrates and articulates sound clinical reasoning in synthesizing complex assessment data. Identifies diagnoses and develops a comprehensive care plan in accordance with department standards, best practice criteria and /or DOH /JCAHO standards. Participates in the interdisciplinary team care planning process.

  3. Documents individualized patient education and counseling in a timely manner.

  4. Meets care productivity standards including face to face contact, screens, consultations, chart review.

  5. Supports a positive learning environment for staff and students, by using effective communication when educating staff on regulations, rules, and providing opportunities for improvement in areas such as documentation, and education. Performs scheduled staff in‐services.

  6. Provides clinical education experiences for students/volunteers, acts as a positive role model for department/profession. Participates in an active mentorship role as a dietetic preceptor for dietetic interns.

  7. Provides outreach and learning activities as requested, which may include, but are not limited to: in‐services on related topics, generating referrals, off‐campus facility marketing, nutrition classes.

• Follows facility and department infection control policies and procedures.

• Follows facility protocols for hazardous materials and waste program.

• Adheres to emergency programs and participates in drills as appropriate.

• Adheres to life safety program in fire drills as appropriate.

• Adheres to facility confidentiality and patient rights as outlined in the facility HIPPA policy and procedure.

Other Duties:

  3. Demonstrates effective time management, completes tasks on time.

  4. Demonstrates safe working habits. Always wears slip resistant shoes in kitchen areas.

  5. Maintains a neat, clean, and sanitary work area.

  6. Must be able to work on a rotation schedule, including weekends and holidays as assigned

  7. Follows dress code and good personal hygiene practices

The pay for this position ranges from $25.10-$39.77 per hour.
