The Blood-flow Lab within the Department of Biology, University of Miami, has an opportunity for a Research Associate to continue to advance the aims of understanding the contribution of vascular function to neurodegenerative diseases.

The candidate’s role will be to lead and guide our efforts to understand the cause and consequences of brain blood flow reductions in Dementia models. Specifically, the candidate will perform and analyze experiments such as genotyping, molecular analyses of tissue samples, immunohistochemistry, optical tissue clearing, and advanced microscopy. The goal of these experiments is to understand the contribution of the vasculature to cognitive impairment in dementia models. The candidate will understand and interpret research protocols and procedures, employ creativity and latitude in performing research tasks independently under the guidance of the lab Principal Investigator. Furthermore, the candidate will contribute to all research activities, participate in, and assist the PI with preparing research results for publication, mentor undergraduates and colleagues, and advance their expertise through education, training, and/or research experience.

The candidate will also assist in the organization and supervision of routine laboratory operations, including ordering materials and reagents, cleaning glassware, and maintaining research organisms, as well as providing laboratory assistance and training to graduate and undergraduate students. May be required to supervise other research personnel.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education Requirements (Essential Requirements):

  • Bachelor’s degree in a basic or health science related area required.

  • Neuroscience, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology background preferred

Work Experience Requirements (Essential Requirements):

  • No experience necessary

  • Experience with model organisms, basic molecular biology knowledge is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Able to convey information effectively.

  • Able to work independently.

  • Able to follow verbal and written instructions.

  • Strong analytical skills.
