The Dam & Levee Engineering Business Unit is seeking a Client-Focused Instructional Designer and Training Advisor with experience working at a professional services consulting firm with collaborative multi-disciplinary teams, as well as with external clients.

The Dam & Levee Engineering Business Unit of Schnabel focuses on the planning, inspection, evaluation, design, and construction of dams, levees, hydraulic structures, fish facilities, civil works facilities, and other water resource projects for clients throughout the U.S. We are one of a few leading engineering firms in the dam and levee industry. The preferred location for this role is in our Chadds Ford (Philadelphia area), PA office; however, other office locations would be considered for the right candidate.

Job Responsibilities:

In the role of Client-Focused Instructional Designer and Training Advisor you will work internally with our staff and externally with various strategic clients. Several of your responsibilities will be conducted in partnership with Schnabel’s corporate Learning & Development (L&D) team. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Relative to supporting external strategic clients, the following will be required:

  • Performing analysis of client training needs

  • Conceptualizing and implementing training content in partnership with appropriate subject matter experts, to include:

  • Developing training objectives

  • Developing training content and appropriate interactivity for workshops, self-paced e-Learning, webinars, and blended learning

  • Developing supplemental materials, such as test questions, facilitator and participant guides

  • Demonstrating creativity, flexibility, efficiency, and innovation in course design

  • Addressing client inquiries and feedback about trainings

  • Interfacing professionally with clients

  • Working with subject matter experts to ensure quality and accuracy of training content and delivery

  • Relative to supporting internal clients, the following will be required:

  • Working with the leadership of the Dam & Levee Engineering Business Unit to establish a framework and priorities for internal technical training and staff development.

  • Working with the leadership of our internal Communities of Practice to identify appropriate subject matter experts and focused technical training topics to design and develop learning solutions and tools including workshops, job aids, facilitator and participant guides, self-paced e-Learning, webinars and blended learning.

  • Working with Branch Leaders in the Dam & Levee Engineering Business Unit to establish technical learning needs for their staff and proactively communicate internal and external opportunities for those identified in each technical developmental area.

  • Working independently and proactively reaching out to the leadership of the Dam & Levee Engineering Business Unit , the corporate L&D team, and other partners to keep assignments on track.

  • In coordination with the corporate L&D team, tracking and documenting completed training by leveraging internal tools.

  • Researching and making recommendations to leverage effective and technically appropriate learning principles, effective instructional design, and learning and training best practices in course material design and creation

  • Addressing project management tasks at a level commensurate with project needs

  • Collaborating and coordinating with the corporate L&D team to ensure coherence of approach and processes, and to optimize efficient and effective use of shared tools and data

  • Perform other duties as needed

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Systems Design, Organizational Learning, Adult Education or closely related field

  • A minimum of 5 years experience in an Instructional Design or similar-type role

  • Experience using a Learning Management System (LMS)

  • Ability to successfully multitask in a fast-paced environment

  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture

  • Ability to pass a background check which may include criminal history, motor vehicle record and credit check.
