AVAILABILITY at TWO LOCATIONS:

Meadows Park Pool

Swim and Racquet Center

SCHEDULE

25 - 35 hours per week

Hours will vary to include days, evenings, weekends and holidays as needed

AMERICAN RED CROSS - Lifeguarding and CPR for the Professional Rescuer

CERTIFICATIONS MUST BE SUBMITTED/UPLOADED AT COMPLETION

OF THIS ONLINE EMPLOYMENT APPLICATION.

GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:

Performs responsible protective service work ensuring the safe use of the City's public swimming facilities by pool visitors; aiding troubled bathers in emergencies. Completes related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision.

Essential Functions

  • Maintains discipline at a swimming pool facility.

  • Observes actions of swimmers and enforces water safety rules and pool rules.

  • Provides emergency lifesaving services to swimmers in need.

RELATED TASKS:

  • Cleans the pool and related facilities on a regular schedule.

  • Meets and greets patrons; resolves conflicts; explains pool rules, regulations, and policies.

  • Performs pool opening and closing procedures.

  • Registers instruction program participants.

  • Sells pool permits; operates cash register.

  • Assists with special events.

  • Performs related tasks as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

General knowledge of water safety rules and of lifesaving and first aid practices and techniques.

General knowledge of the cleaning and maintenance requirements for large pools and related equipment and supplies.

Considerable skill in and strength in swimming.

Ability to maintain chemical balance of pool water.

Ability to work safely with toxic chemicals.

Ability to enforces rules and to remain calm under stress.

Ability to clean and maintain a swimming pool and related facilities.

Ability to pass annual requalification testing.

Ability to pass American Red Cross Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and Oxygen

Administration classes, during first month of employment.

Minimum and Preferred Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to completion of tenth (10th) grade.

CERTIFICATIONS / PROFESSIONAL LICENSES:

  • Must possess current certifications in American Red Cross Lifeguard Training (LGT) and CPR for the Professional Rescuer (CPR PR).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Must have 20/30 corrected vision in both eyes, correct color vision and depth perception. Must be able to lift, carry and push articles weighing up to 150 lbs. Must be able to wear goggles, gloves and face shield. Exposure to extreme temperatures, and weather conditions, chemicals, animals/insects, confined spaces, heights, noise, vibration, dust, vapors, fumes, mist, gases, smoke, poisons, irritants, asphyxiants, moving mechanical parts, and bloodborne pathogens.

CITY OF BOCA RATON - BENEFITS SUMMARY

Part-Time Employees

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: To be eligible to receive Paid Leave and to contribute to the 457 Deferred Compensation Plan, a part-time employee must have worked at least 1,040 hours in the prior fiscal year

PAID LEAVE: Employees who work a minimum of 1,040 hours per fiscal year will receive twelve (12) hours of Paid Leave on October 1st. This Paid Leave shall be used no later than September 30th of that fiscal year or it will be forfeited. These hours may not accumulate and may only be granted with the approval of the employee's supervisor. This paid leave has no cash value at separation of employment.

MISSION SQUARE 457 DEFERRED COMPENSATION PLAN: Employees who work a minimum of 1,040 hours per fiscal year will be allowed to participate in the 457 Deferred Compensation Plan. The City will not provide any matching funds.
