Michigan Sugar Company has an immediate full-time opportunity for a Food Safety/Quality Assurance Coordinator, located at the Bay City Facility. This position will require travel to our other 3 facilities in Caro, Croswell and Sebewaing, as needed.

::: {align="left"} The Food Safety/Quality Assurance coordinator will act as the PCQI/SQF Practitioner for the site and will manage overall development, implementation, and maintenance of the food and feed safety system, including all prerequisite programs, hazard analysis and food safety plans. Note -- The food safety system includes food for human consumption as well as food for animals (co-products).  :::

::: {align="left"} ::: {align="left"} Primary Responsibilities: :::

Quality/Food Safety - Ensure all products shipped from the facility meet all regulatory, internal, and customer specifications.

Calibration - Maintain calibration schedules for equipment related to Food Safety and final Product testing. Work with Department Managers to ensure calibrations are being performed as required.  Retain copies of all 3rd party certifications and calibrations.  Make determination of disposition of product affected by out of calibration instruments, as necessary. 

Corrective Actions - Issue CAPA's related to Food Safety, work with team members to ensure that CAPA's are being properly investigated and followed up on.  Maintain the CAPA log.

Customer Complaints -- Work with Maintenance and Department Managers to investigate Food Safety related Customer Complaints. Issue corrective and preventative actions as necessary and follow the CAPA's to completion. Work with Customer Representatives on providing solutions to the affected Customer.

Crisis Management - Member of the Crisis Management Team.  Schedule and conduct a mock crisis exercise at least annually.

Management of Change - Review documents for any necessary changes to the Food Safety System.  Perform validation studies and approve any process or equipment changes prior to the change.  Update all forms and procedures, as necessary.

Document Control - Maintain all documents in the Food Safety System. Reviews documents at least annually, issuing updates, tracking changes, and revising documents as necessary. Maintain a filing system so documents are easily accessible and are retained for the required length of time.

Food Defense - Oversee the development of the Food Defense Plan, perform training on food defense to all employees, test and verify the food defense plan during monthly walkthrough, review the food defense plan at least annually.

Foreign Materials - Review foreign material inspection logs, metal detector logs, and aid in the clean-up and disposition of any product believed to be affected by product contamination.

Audits -- Perform monthly sanitation self-inspections of entire facility and document findings. Primary participant during customer and regulatory audits. Document, issue, implement and monitor preventive and corrective actions from all internal and external audits.  Communicate audit results to management.

Food Safety Plan -- Conduct annual review of plan. Revise plan whenever changes are required.
